Simeon Holds the Baby Jesus in the TempleBible World

Leviticus 12:6

And when the days of her purifying are fulfilled, for a son, or for a daughter, she shall bring a lamb of the first year for a burnt offering, and a young pigeon, or a turtledove, for a sin offering, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, unto the priest:

When the days of her purifying for a son or for a daughter were fulfilled, the mother was to bring an offering to the priest at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. The offering was a lamb of the first year for a burnt offering and a young pigeon or a turtledove for a sin offering. A poor family was allowed to bring two birds instead, one to serve for the burnt offering and one for the sin offering. The offerings were to be without blemish and represented Christ, and Jesus' freedom from physical defect corresponds to the image of the spotless lamb. About forty days after Jesus' birth, Mary and Joseph presented Him and offered sacrifice in obedience to this law, showing His conformity to the law in every particular.
