Leviticus 13:26
But if the priest look on it, and, behold, there be no white hair in the bright spot, and it be no lower than the other skin, but be somewhat dark; then the priest shall shut him up seven days: But if the priest look on it, and, behold, there be no white hair in the bright spot, and it be no lower than the other skin, but be somewhat dark; then the priest shall shut him up seven days:
Leviticus 13:26 belongs to the laws regulating uncleanness and leprosy, cleansing, and sanitation, including precautions for contagious and infectious disease. It describes the priest's examination of a bright spot, directing that when there is no white hair in it and it is not lower than the surrounding skin but is somewhat dark, the person is to be shut away for seven days. It belongs to a law of cleansing in which an object had to be made visibly clean and have physical uncleanness removed before it could receive the sanctuary's real cleansing with blood.
The leprosy dealt with is a horrible disease, shown in its utmost loathsomeness. It is a fitting type of sin, even mortal sin, picturing sin as a moral disease. As so represented, sin is universally prevalent and by human means incurable, and it does not heal by itself. Like leprosy, sin is infectious and spreads to others; it consumes its victim, has its chief seat within with the heart as its source, pollutes the source of life and the surrounding community, brings outward shame, and may lead others into sin.
Cleansing from this condition comes through the blood of the great Physician for those who repent and believe, displaying the power of Jesus Christ to heal. The leprosy laws required proper precautions even though God was Israel's healer. The sanitation laws promulgated by Moses to which the verse belongs still stand at the head of sanitary law, and their enduring superiority gives conclusive evidence that divine inspiration guided Moses. The same loathsome leprosy is still prevalent in the Holy Land as in scriptural days, so that with the other diseases of the same types as then it bears witness to scriptural truth. The cleansing requirements given to ancient Israel teach God's people not to abandon health reform and other cleansing truths.
