Leviticus 14:27
And the priest shall sprinkle with his right finger some of the oil that is in his left hand seven times before the LORD: And the priest shall sprinkle with his right finger some of the oil that is in his left hand seven times before the LORD:
This verse is part of the ceremonial and ritual law for a person cleansed or healed of leprosy, prescribing the priestly rites and offerings, including the priest sprinkling oil before the Lord as prescribed. The broader passage commands the cleansed leper to go, show himself, and present himself to the priest and to make and offer the cleansing offering commanded by Moses as a testimony.
The offering cannot be accepted until the same priests who banished him thoroughly examine him and publicly proclaim and certify him entirely free from infectious disease, in sound health, and free to unite again with family and friends without danger. This formal declaration that he is free reinstates him in Israel and allows his return to family and friends. Jesus honored and upheld this law by directing the healed leper to obey it and present the required offering to the priest. That obedience showed that His actions and directions were not opposed to the law of Moses, the law given through Moses, and the Jewish code. It proved false the charge that His teachings opposed the law of Moses and were for self-exaltation.
Following the law made the healing a public testimony and gave the priests irrefutable testimony of His divine power and respect for the law. It stirred great excitement among the people waiting for the priests' decision, for such a complete cure of leprosy had never before been known. The rite belonged to the system of ceremonial types that pointed forward to events fulfilled in Christ, and its significance is understood through Christ's death, when type met antitype.
