Leviticus 14:31

Even such as he is able to get, the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering, with the meat offering: and the priest shall make an atonement for him that is to be cleansed before the LORD.

This verse belongs to the law of Moses for cleansing a leper, which requires the healed person to come to the priest and present for his cleansing the offering Moses commanded. The cleansing rite is thus made subject to priestly examination and public confirmation before the Lord. For a cleansed person who cannot afford the full offerings, the law allows him to bring what he is able to get, one bird for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering, with the grain or meat offering. The priest shall then make an atonement for him that is to be cleansed before the Lord.

The priest must examine the healed person and declare and certify him free from disease, and that decision restores him to family, friends, society and the congregation. He must first thoroughly examine him and proclaim to the people that he is entirely free from disease and in sound health before accepting an offering from his hands. Only then can he again unite with family and friends without endangering them. Jesus commanded the man He had healed to obey this law and present the offering, showing that His healing work upheld the law of Moses and the Jewish code and was not opposed to it.

The presentation of the offering and the priests' public certification of the cure stand as irrefutable testimony to the priests of Christ's divine healing power and respect for the law given through Moses. That testimony proves false the charge that His teaching was opposed to the law of Moses. The false charge also claimed that His teachings aimed at exalting Himself. The priests' public decision, restoring the man to the congregation as a standing testimony to Christ's healing power, gives them an opportunity to recognize the truth.

These cleansing ceremonies were types pointing forward to Christ, and His death brings type and antitype together and reveals their meaning.
