Leviticus 14:47

And he that lieth in the house shall wash his clothes; and he that eateth in the house shall wash his clothes.

The house is one affected by plague that had been shut up under the prescribed closure because it was unsafe. Anyone who lay down or slept in that house had to wash his clothes, and the same washing was required of anyone who ate in it. Even mere contact with the house, simply entering it, made a person ceremonially unclean, and that uncleanness is why the washing was commanded. The uncleanness so contracted lasted until evening. The requirement reflects a strict regard for cleanliness required both inside and outside the dwellings and tents, so that no refuse was to remain in or around the camp.
