Leviticus 14:9
But it shall be on the seventh day, that he shall shave all his hair off his head and his beard and his eyebrows, even all his hair he shall shave off: and he shall wash his clothes, also he shall wash his flesh in water, and he shall be clean.
Leviticus 14:9 belongs to the Mosaic law and procedure for the cleansing of a person healed of leprosy, forming part of the ceremonial requirements set out in Leviticus 14:1-32 and 14:2-32. That law required the healed person to present himself to the priest and bring the offering Moses prescribed, with its prescribed rites and offerings. The priest examined the person and declared or certified him free of disease and clean, and that declaration allowed him to return to his family and friends and to his community and congregation.
The ceremonies for cleansing were types pointing forward to events fulfilled in Christ, and his death explains their meaning. Christ directed the healed man to follow this Mosaic procedure and to present the offering required by that law, thereby recognizing and respecting the law and showing that his healing and his teaching did not oppose the law of Moses or the Jewish code. That direction also provided the priests with public evidence of the cure.
