Leviticus 15:2
Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When any man hath a running issue out of his flesh, because of his issue he is unclean. Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When any man hath a running issue out of his flesh, because of his issue he is unclean.
Leviticus 15:2 belongs to the cleansing laws given to ancient Israel, found in chapters 12 to 15 and connected with the wider laws concerning sacrifices and offerings, the consecration and duties of priests, the yearly feasts, and clean and unclean conditions including leprosy, bodily discharges, and unsanitary houses, requiring physical uncleanness to be removed so a person could be regarded as visibly clean. The verse introduces rules for dealing with an infectious condition involving a running discharge from the flesh, declaring the man unclean because of his issue. It provides an admirable sanitary precaution whose restrictions through isolation and cleanliness aim to keep him from communicating it to others, showing that God presents Himself as the healer while still demanding proper precaution from His people.
The required visible cleansing prepared for the real cleansing of the sanctuary by blood, since an unclean person entering the sanctuary could defile it. The uncleanness laws are mighty object-lessons in which uncleanness and leprosy serve as a fitting type that emphasizes everywhere the exceeding sinfulness of sin. Each detail of these laws finds fuller meaning in the sacrifice, life, and work of Jesus Christ, and the verse is to be read remembering that all the sacrifices point forward to Him as the Lamb who removes the sin of the world, which gives new life to otherwise dry details of laws and regulations.
The cleansing laws are types of cleansing truths that Christians, especially the remnant, must not abandon, applying to health reform and to the preparation of clean vessels to receive the latter rain.
