Leviticus 15:24

And if any man lie with her at all, and her flowers be upon him, he shall be unclean seven days; and all the bed whereon he lieth shall be unclean.

Leviticus 15:24 belongs to the rules for containing infectious disease, in that a man lying with a woman during her discharge was made unclean seven days and every bed on which he lay was made unclean. The restriction of contact through uncleanness served to prevent disease from spreading by isolation and cleanliness. It belongs also to the law of cleansing for physical uncleanness, which required a person to be made visibly clean before the sanctuary's cleansing with blood. In this way physical uncleanness was removed first, before the deeper, moral defilement of the sanctuary was addressed through atonement. It is part of the laws governing the yearly cycle of service in the Levitical sanctuary, whose rites typified Christ's priestly ministry in the heavenly sanctuary.

It stands among the mighty object-lessons God gave in Leviticus to show the exceeding sinfulness of sin. Its dry detail of law and regulation is given new life and blessing when read remembering that the sacrifices were types of Jesus Christ as the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world. It belongs to the cleansing laws given to ancient Israel in Leviticus 15, which serve as a lesson for Christians to pursue bodily cleanliness and health reform. That bodily preparation prepares them to receive God's Spirit and the latter rain.
