Leviticus 19:28

Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.

The voice forbidding cuttings for the dead and printed marks is Jesus Christ Himself speaking from the cloudy pillar in the Old Testament. His standard in that prohibition is just as high as His teaching in the New Testament, with no lowering of morality between the Testaments. The command stands not alone but as part of an entire chapter given as a lesson for the benefit of future generations. It addresses those who have received God's wonderful love in the gift of Jesus and of all heaven, calling them to love one another as Christ has loved them.
