Leviticus 19:6

It shall be eaten the same day ye offer it, and on the morrow: and if ought remain until the third day, it shall be burnt in the fire.

The verse requires a voluntary peace offering to be eaten on the day it is offered and on the following day, with any portion remaining until the third day to be burned in the fire. Eating the offering on the third day profanes what is holy and brings guilt, so the offering becomes unacceptable and the offender is exposed to being cut off from the people. The verse belongs to instruction that requires holiness as God is holy in order to be accepted and approved by God.

The holiness the verse requires is shown in practicing godliness in every circumstance, not only toward fellow believers but toward all who need mercy and relief. The holiness the verse requires is shown in individual union with Christ as personal Saviour rather than mere church membership. The holiness the verse requires is shown in growing up to the full stature of Jesus Christ. The holiness the verse requires is shown in learning responsibility first as a blessing to family members and then to fellow men. The holiness the verse requires is shown in loving neighbors as self. The holiness the verse requires is shown in striving daily against selfishness and self-centeredness. The holiness the verse requires is shown in cultivating the attributes of Jesus, which are the attributes of God.
