Leviticus 21:13

And he shall take a wife in her virginity.

The standard set out in Leviticus 21:6-23 governed those who ministered in the sanctuary, requiring them to be holy, pure, and without blemish. That strict requirement rested on the nature of their work, which brought them into close connection with God. The command concerning the high priest's marriage belongs to that same body of instruction on fitness for sacred service. God has not lowered that standard, but remains just as holy and just as particular now as He was then.
