Leviticus 21:18
For whatsoever man he be that hath a blemish, he shall not approach: a blind man, or a lame, or he that hath a flat nose, or any thing superfluous, For whatsoever man he be that hath a blemish, he shall not approach: a blind man, or a lame, or he that hath a flat nose, or any thing superfluous,
Leviticus 21:18 belongs to the sanctuary regulations that barred any priest with a blemish from approaching to serve, requiring that ministers be without blemish. The requirement existed because sanctuary work brought ministers into close connection with God, so those who served there had to be pure and holy. God enforced this standard strictly and would destroy ministers who ministered without meeting it. The rule reflects God's holiness and particularity, which remain unchanged and just as exacting as in Israel's day. The same standard therefore applies to ministers of Jesus, who must be pure in life, experienced, and deeply pious, exerting a holy influence.
