Leviticus 21:8
Thou shalt sanctify him therefore; for he offereth the bread of thy God: he shall be holy unto thee: for I the LORD, which sanctify you, am holy. Thou shalt sanctify him therefore; for he offereth the bread of thy God: he shall be holy unto thee: for I the LORD, which sanctify you, am holy.
The priest is to be counted holy because he presents the bread of God. Those who ministered in the sanctuary had to be holy and pure and without blemish because their work brought them into close connection with God. That command expresses God's own holiness and exacting particularity, which remain just as unchanged now as then. To fail that standard of purity brought destruction. Those who serve in holy ministry for Jesus today must likewise be holy and pure in life and conduct, with deep piety. They must live in such a way that their influence is a blessing.
