Leviticus 22:4
What man soever of the seed of Aaron is a leper, or hath a running issue; he shall not eat of the holy things, until he be clean. And whoso toucheth any thing that is unclean by the dead, or a man whose seed goeth from him; What man soever of the seed of Aaron is a leper, or hath a running issue; he shall not eat of the holy things, until he be clean. And whoso toucheth any thing that is unclean by the dead, or a man whose seed goeth from him;
Any man of the seed of Aaron who was a leper or had a running issue was barred from eating of the holy food until he became clean. The uncleanness by the dead is uncleanness contracted by touching a dead person, stated in abbreviated elliptical form. The underlying word neh-phesh, meaning soul, can denote a person whether living or dead, since personal identity is not lost in death. These requirements belong to the laws and object lessons in Leviticus concerning sin and holiness.
