Leviticus 23:16
Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the LORD. Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the LORD.
The verse sets the Feast of Weeks fifty days, or seven weeks, after Passover and the offering of the firstfruits. The feast commanded here is also called Pentecost. It is also called the feast of harvest. It lasted one day and was devoted to religious service.
The new offering required was the presentation of the firstfruits of the harvest to God, as gratitude for grain prepared as food, including two loaves baked with leaven. Those offerings acknowledged dependence on God as the giver of all good and the duty to return gifts to support and sustain His cause. At its New Testament fulfillment at Pentecost, the believers who received the Holy Spirit when God poured out His Spirit were the firstfruits of the Christian church.
