Leviticus 23:7

In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.

The verse concerns the first day of the seven-day Feast of Unleavened Bread that followed the Passover. That first day was set apart as a holy convocation for gathering before God. On it no servile or unnecessary work was to be done. The seventh day of the feast was to be kept in the same way as the first. The time was to be devoted to remembering God's blessings and rejoicing. Gifts and thank offerings were to be brought in proportion to the blessings received, revealing how deeply the people valued those blessings and loved their Benefactor.
