Leviticus 24:11
And the Israelitish woman’s son blasphemed the name of the LORD, and cursed. And they brought him unto Moses: (and his mother’s name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan:) And the Israelitish woman’s son blasphemed the name of the LORD, and cursed. And they brought him unto Moses: (and his mother’s name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan:)
After a quarrel with an Israelite man, the son of an Israelite woman cursed and blasphemed the name of the Lord and was brought to Moses. His words were not light speech but a grave act of contempt toward God and a great sin, showing that God's name is to be held in reverence. Since no penalty for this offense had yet been specified, he was kept in custody while divine direction was sought.
God directed that he be put to death by stoning outside the camp. Those who had heard him were to lay their hands upon his head in solemn attestation of the charge against him, and then take the lead in stoning him. From this case came a standing law that anyone, whether native-born Israelite or foreigner, who blasphemes the Lord's name shall be put to death.
