Leviticus 25:15
According to the number of years after the jubile thou shalt buy of thy neighbour, and according unto the number of years of the fruits he shall sell unto thee: According to the number of years after the jubile thou shalt buy of thy neighbour, and according unto the number of years of the fruits he shall sell unto thee:
Leviticus 25 is instruction from heaven from God concerning the land and the jubilee and duties to one another, and that instruction is actual practical missionary work embodying the very principles of Christianity, the gospel of the Old Testament. The jubilee is the fiftieth year. Buying from a neighbor is to be according to the number of years after the jubilee, and his selling is to be according to the number of years of produce or fruits remaining.
The land is the Lord's, and He is to be regarded as its owner and Householder while the people are His tenants. The lessons of the chapter were given to be brought into practical life in obedience, to encourage liberality and care for the poor and to overcome all stinginess and selfish principles that close the heart and door when brethren working in hard fields ask a favor. To the obedient, He will make the land productive by giving His blessing upon their lands.
This is illustrated by the land keeping a sabbath or yearly sabbath every seventh year, when cultivation was not permitted and the soil was left to invigorate the worn-out land. In that year its spontaneous growth was for the poor, with free access for all, including strangers, and for flocks and herds. By special interposition the Lord over the whole earth thus took care of the poor, and under God's supervision the sixth year yielded provision for three years as a constant lesson that God is the Householder and the land is His.
This is one of God's laws for the distribution of property that applies in the world today. Carried out now, it would change the condition of the people. It would prevent the evils seen in all ages from oppression of the poor by the rich and hatred of the rich by the poor. It would hinder the amassing of great wealth and the holding of tens of thousands in ignorant, degraded, ill-paid servitude to build up colossal fortunes. It would bring a peaceful solution to problems that threaten to fill the world with anarchy and bloodshed.
