Leviticus 25:41

And then shall he depart from thee, both he and his children with him, and shall return unto his own family, and unto the possession of his fathers shall he return.

The regulation belongs to the practical duties people owe to one another in the Old Testament gospel, given by God as Lord over the whole earth speaking to His people. It stands in the law of release, where the fiftieth year is the jubilee. Its lessons were designed to encourage liberality and to overcome stinginess of heart.

It teaches that the land is the Lord's, that God Himself is the Householder and owner, and that the people dwell upon it only as His tenants. By this it shows that God cares for the poor and has made provision for them in the return of families to their own inheritance. It further teaches that if the people are obedient, God will make the land productive and bless it to supply their need.
