Leviticus 25:50
And he shall reckon with him that bought him from the year that he was sold to him unto the year of jubile: and the price of his sale shall be according unto the number of years, according to the time of an hired servant shall it be with him.
Leviticus 25:50 belongs to God's directions for duties to one another, which are practical missionary work and the very principles of Christianity. They are the gospel of the Old Testament, given by a Lord who is over the whole earth. Its setting is the sabbath-year and jubilee system. In that system every seventh year was a sabbatical year when cultivation of the soil was forbidden, so that the land could have its sabbath of rest to invigorate worn-out soil, and the fiftieth year was the jubilee.
In that seventh year the spontaneous growth of the land was left free for the benefit of the poor, the strangers, and the flocks and herds. The jubilee was meant to encourage liberality and to overcome stinginess. It taught that the land is the Lord's, with Him as its owner and Householder and the people as His tenants. It showed His care for the poor in His special provision for them. Obedience to these directions carried a promise of blessing to make the land productive, with the sixth year under His supervision yielding provision for three years.
