Leviticus 26:22

I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your high ways shall be desolate.

Leviticus 26:3-28 sets covenant blessing — favor, provision, and safety — as dependent on obedience, with persistent disobedience bringing the reverse of condemnation, curse, withdrawn prosperity, and adversity and loss. Obedience draws God's favor while disobedience withdraws His prosperity, and the threatened sending of wild beasts to bereave, destroy cattle, diminish numbers, and desolate highways belongs to that warning of adversity upon the persistently disobedient. The same consequences that fell on Israel fall on all who receive God's warning.

Leviticus 26 stands written for the admonition of those living at the end of the world. It calls them to review the past without self-justification and with fear over hardness and stubbornness. Those warned today bear greater responsibility because they have greater light.

God can scatter possessions entrusted to people when they withhold them from His work, including through loss of livestock and crops. Such losses serve as reminders of neglected duty. Those who suffer no visible loss may be in a more hopeless condition. The warning is also fulfilled individually, as when God tests a man in dishonest, close dealing and acts contrary to him until he recognizes God's hand in his troubles.
