Leviticus 26:28

Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.

These are words Christ gave through Moses. The chapter in which they stand was written as a warning for God's people, including those living at the end of the world. If His people walk contrary to Him, disregard His requirements, and will not listen, He Himself will oppose them in judgment rather than blessing, walking contrary to them in fury.

That chastisement comes directly from God and includes scattering among the heathen with a sword drawn after them, leaving the land desolate and the cities waste. Disobedience brings punishment and the loss of God's prosperity. Its purpose is that the nations may know themselves to be but men, and it explains the impending doom facing Judah in Jeremiah's day.

Israel's experience shows that obeying or disobeying God's warnings matters, and greater light brings greater responsibility. The call is to review the past without self-justification, repent, and turn from hardness and stubbornness of heart. The Lord's displeasure will come upon workers if they do not make needed changes in the management of His work.

The same warning applies to those who selfishly withhold their means from God's work, in that God may scatter the resources entrusted to them through losses, though some may suffer no visible loss.
