Leviticus 26:34
Then shall the land enjoy her sabbaths, as long as it lieth desolate, and ye be in your enemies’ land; even then shall the land rest, and enjoy her sabbaths. Then shall the land enjoy her sabbaths, as long as it lieth desolate, and ye be in your enemies’ land; even then shall the land rest, and enjoy her sabbaths.
The chapter that holds this promise of rest for the land is an admonition given for people living at the end of the world. It sets obedience and disobedience before its readers as two opposite outcomes, with disobedience bringing punishment and the loss of God's prosperity, and obedience bringing blessing. Its warning is therefore meant to lead readers to look back over past failures with repentance rather than to defend themselves with self-justification.
