Leviticus 26:43

The land also shall be left of them, and shall enjoy her sabbaths, while she lieth desolate without them: and they shall accept of the punishment of their iniquity: because, even because they despised my judgments, and because their soul abhorred my statutes.

The voice speaking here is Christ Himself, addressing Moses from the pillowy cloud. The meaning is that through disobedience Israel would be removed and the land left desolate without them, so that the land itself could enjoy its sabbath rests, while the people would accept and bear the punishment of their iniquity for despising God's judgments and because their soul abhorred His statutes. Their history thus stands as proof that disobedience brings condemnation and causes God's favor to be withdrawn. The whole chapter is a warning to those living at the end of the world, who have been given greater light and from whom more is therefore expected.

The same word is directed to leading workers concerning their dealings with every soul for whom Christ gave His life, declaring that with God there is no respect of persons. It demands improvements and changes in the management of His work, lest the Lord's displeasure rest upon the workers.
