Leviticus 3:8

And he shall lay his hand upon the head of his offering, and kill it before the tabernacle of the congregation: and Aaron’s sons shall sprinkle the blood thereof round about upon the altar.

The instruction forms part of the ceremonial system of sacrifices given through Moses. Within that system it governs the peace offering. The offering was to be presented before the Lord with prayer for His acceptance and blessing, while the portion reserved for the worshipers was shared together in a sacred feast.

Beyond the outward act, the sacrificial service pointed to Christ's ministry and death as the One who would bear the sins of the world and die for its redemption. When properly conducted, these services fostered true devotion, kindness, and sympathy, instead of becoming empty ceremony or an occasion for self-gratification.
