Leviticus 4:29

And he shall lay his hand upon the head of the sin offering, and slay the sin offering in the place of the burnt offering.

This instruction belongs to the law in Leviticus 4:22-35 for the sin offering of a ruler or of one of the common people. It describes part of the daily ministry, in which day by day the repentant sinner brought his offering to the door of the tabernacle. He laid his hand upon the victim's head and confessed his sins, thus in figure transferring them from himself to the innocent sacrifice. He then slew the offering in the place of the burnt offering, because without shedding of blood there is no remission of sin.

The blood of this offering was not taken into the holy place. This differs from the sin offering for a priest or for the whole congregation, whose blood was carried into the holy place and sprinkled before the veil and placed upon the horns of the golden altar. The flesh of this offering was to be eaten by the priest in a holy place, in the court of the tent of meeting.
