Leviticus 4:8
And he shall take off from it all the fat of the bullock for the sin offering; the fat that covereth the inwards, and all the fat that is upon the inwards, And he shall take off from it all the fat of the bullock for the sin offering; the fat that covereth the inwards, and all the fat that is upon the inwards,
This instruction belongs to the sin offering appointed for a priest or for the whole congregation. In that ritual the fat was taken off the bull and burned on the altar of burnt offering in the court, while its blood was carried into the holy place and its body was burned outside the camp.
The sin offering is one of God's required claims upon property in addition to the tithe. The tithe was not the complete standard of giving, for property was sanctified by requiring returns in almost everything to keep people mindful of the Giver, with the requirement proportioned to the amount possessed so that larger entrusted capital called for a more valuable gift. The sin offering stands together with thank offerings, sacrificial offerings, trespass offerings, ransom for the first-born, firstfruits of flocks and harvest, corners of harvest fields and dropped handfuls left for the destitute and poor, land left to produce spontaneously for the needy once in seven years, remission of debts every seventh year, expenses for hospitalities and gifts to the poor, assessments upon property, and special freewill offerings such as for the tabernacle in the wilderness and the temple at Jerusalem. God drew all these for human good and to sustain His service, and a conscientious giver returned about one-third of income for religious interests and the poor. Christians of means remain under the same obligation to give proportionally according to the tithing system and also to present sin offerings and thank offerings.
