Leviticus 6:19

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

The verse records the LORD speaking to Moses to give special instruction and direction about the offerings, introducing further directions about the sacrifices. By it God Himself ordered the priesthood and its offerings connected with the tribe of Levi. It belongs to the ceremonial law, which was instituted in consequence of sin, as part of the chapters describing the sacrifices and the main features of the service of the sanctuary, especially Leviticus 1 to 7, 16 and 23.

Those chapters give the special work and first general ministry done for individuals when, burdened with their sins, they brought their particular offerings during the year. That work belonged to the daily service in the holy place of the earthly sanctuary built by Moses in the wilderness, performed by the Levitical priesthood as part of the complete round of service performed every year. It shows God's hatred of sin and that sin demanded its penalty, with the individual offerings brought in faith showing faith in the Redeemer who was to come. Every such offering made in faith transferred in figure the sins of the penitent to the sanctuary through the blood of the sacrifice or the person of the priest.

When the priest sprinkled the blood upon the altar before the ark he left there in figure the forgiven sins of the people of God, and this transferring work went on continually through the year until the yearly cleansing. The earthly sanctuary in its building, appointments, priesthood, and service, with its offering law, was the example, pattern and shadow of Christ and His priesthood and more excellent ministry as Minister of the heavenly sanctuary in the true tabernacle in heaven, revealing God's way, power and glory. That heavenly ministry Jesus began when He ascended on high, and the yearly round typified in each year the service of Christ, which was once for all, so that each sacrifice teaches in type about the work of Jesus Christ, in whom is the substance.
