Leviticus 7:35
This is the portion of the anointing of Aaron, and of the anointing of his sons, out of the offerings of the LORD made by fire, in the day when he presented them to minister unto the LORD in the priest’s office; This is the portion of the anointing of Aaron, and of the anointing of his sons, out of the offerings of the LORD made by fire, in the day when he presented them to minister unto the LORD in the priest’s office;
This is the closing definition of the priests' portion out of the offerings made by fire, concluding the instruction on the five kinds of offerings — burnt, meal, peace, sin, and trespass — with the purpose of each offering and the manner of offering it clearly defined. The chapter gives laws for special offerings, including sin offerings, peace offerings, and thank offerings, which cost the worshiper something, with the cost varying according to wealth or position. It is part of the instruction about the individual offerings presented during the year in the regular ministry of the earthly sanctuary.
It identifies the portions from the Lord's fire offerings assigned to Aaron and his sons when they were presented to begin serving as priests. Those portions belong to their consecration and priestly service. The instruction belongs to the ceremonial law, distinct from the moral law, and the ceremonial law was instituted in consequence of sin. It belongs to the instructions for the Levitical priesthood, whose sanctuary, priests, and services served as a type of Christ and his priesthood in the heavenly sanctuary. It belongs to the instructions describing the different kinds of sacrifices, each of which has a typological connection to the work of Christ, and the offerings brought by individuals burdened with sin expressed faith in the Redeemer to come.
