Luke 1:38

And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.

The words were spoken by Mary of Nazareth at her home in Nazareth as her answer to the angel's wonderful announcement. They express sweet, childlike faith and a full submission of herself to God for His word to be fulfilled in her. That trust stands in contrast to Zacharias, who for a moment looked to the weakness of humanity and forgot that what God has promised He is able to perform. From that announcement onward Mary treasured evidence that Jesus was the Messiah, and His sweet, unselfish life assured her that He was sent by God.
