Luke 1:47

And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

The spirit's rejoicing in God as Saviour is joyful praise voicing gladness, trust, and confident faith in His power to save. Joined to the line before it, this rejoicing is the soul magnifying the Lord. That magnifying praise is prompted by His restoring power and wonderful works, and by deliverance from discouragement and darkness.

The verse is spoken in recovery from sickness and restored health, as hope brightens and faith returns. In that renewal, spirits and strength and hope are made new. There the rejoicing accompanies praise and gratitude for God's goodness, blessings, and gifts. Recognizing those gifts invigorates and strengthens the mind, and God is near and pleased when they are appreciated.

Looking to Jesus in faith turns despondency into this joy and confidence, bringing renewed strength and trust and readiness to continue the work. The same joy and gratitude answer His loving-kindness in sparing life to see a blessed day, and move the believer to live the truth so others may see its light. Believers are to speak of this joy in God and of trust in Jesus as a present Saviour who guides and protects His people. This joy also comes as God's purpose is fulfilled through wholehearted service, accompanied by the peace and intelligence and grace He gives.
