Luke 11:24

When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.

Taken with the two verses that follow it, the saying warns that merely expelling evil leaves the inner life vacant and without defense. An evil influence may be removed, yet if Christ's grace is not received in its place the soul remains unguarded. The unclean spirit then comes back to its former dwelling, and the person's final state grows worse than the first. Deliverance by itself is therefore not enough; the emptied house must be filled with Christ's grace and set apart wholly for His service, with every part of life surrendered to Him.
