Luke 11:49
Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute: Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute:
God's wisdom purposed to send prophets and apostles to call people to truth, foreknowing beforehand that some of them would be slain and persecuted. Jesus uttered this as a warning to the generation then opposing Him, that it was carrying on the same violence its forefathers had practiced against God's messengers. The sending was therefore both gracious in its call and judicial in its exposure of persistent rejection.
The warning applied to the Jewish leaders and nation in their rebellion against God's requirements and against the light they had received. That rebellion showed itself when leaders set themselves up as judges over those moved by the Holy Spirit to speak God's word, censuring, rejecting, and abusing them. In so judging and mistreating Spirit-moved speakers, they continued the course of resistance that had marked their people.
