Luke 12:52

For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.

From that time onward the coming of Christ brings division even inside a single house, where five are divided with three against two and two against three. Some in the household choose Him and the truth while others stand opposed to them, so the home itself becomes the place of separation. This division expresses the enmity between good and evil that His presence exposes. It does not mean that He seeks conflict for its own sake.

The saying belongs to His appeal to those blessed with great light to show earnest religious interest rather than tame, listless striving. It calls for wholehearted service of Christ, maintained by daily prayer and watchfulness.
