Jesus Heals the Woman Bent Over Eighteen Yearsby emmanuel_higgins

Luke 13:12

And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.

The woman had been bowed down and bent together by an infirmity for eighteen years. When Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and declared her released and freed from her infirmity. His response was one of compassion and mercy toward her affliction. After speaking, He laid His hands on her. She was immediately healed and made able to stand straight. The healing was an observable manifestation and display of divine power.

The healed woman glorified and praised God. The ruler of the synagogue resented that Jesus had healed her on the Sabbath. The healing was an act of mercy in harmony with the Sabbath, showing that Jesus used the Sabbath to heal and restore people. It demonstrates His willing and joyful ministry of mercy on that day.

His Sabbath example included speaking comfort and healing disease without growing weary, and His healing work was extensive. Healing comes when Jesus speaks a word that releases a person from infirmity, the same kind of healing word to be sought in prayer for troubled eyes.
