Luke 16:16
The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it. The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.
Christ addressed this instruction to the covetous Pharisees who mocked His teaching that no servant can serve both God and money. They were justifying themselves before men while God knew their hearts, and they highly esteemed among men what God counts abomination. In that setting He declared the dividing line at John, with the law and the prophets as the witness until that time. Since that time the kingdom of God is proclaimed, and every person presses eagerly into it.
That shift in proclamation did not abolish the law, for the law stands permanent and uncancelled. As the next verse declares, not even its smallest mark or least detail will fail. The instruction is given for everyone to read and believe and obey.
