Luke 17:1
Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come! Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come!
It is impossible but that offenses and stumbling blocks will come; their arising is certain. Yet a solemn woe rests upon the one through whom they come, who stands under severe judgment. The cruel treatment given to Christ fulfills this certainty of offenses. His disciples must therefore expect the very same kind of treatment, and not be surprised and astonished to be partakers with Him in His sufferings. They should pray constantly to have the mind that was in Christ Jesus.
Using words or actions to damage the college and to work against God's purpose is such an offense. Faultfinding, busybody interference, and unguarded words hinder faithful work and can cause sinners to stumble and fall. For such an offender it would be better to have a millstone hung around the neck and be cast into the sea. Those who cause stumbling in this way must repent and be converted.
