Blind Bartimaeus Receives His Sightby emmanuel_higgins

Luke 18:42

And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.

The man Jesus addressed was blind Bartimaeus, who was appealing to Him for mercy. Jesus restored the blind man's sight in response to his faith. The verse presents Jesus of Nazareth passing by with a blessing that must be received and not allowed to pass by unclaimed.

The verse models bringing a sick person to Jesus in faith and relying on God's healing power, with faith seeking mercy and trusting God for restoration. The verse also supplies a pattern for seeking Jesus personally and calling on Him for mercy. Through God's grace He can give clearer spiritual sight, which is more valuable than material riches. For commandment-keeping people who wish to glorify His name, receiving this blessing means coming down from self-exaltation, walking humbly before Him, seeking the Lord with all heart and soul and strength and mind, searching the heart, setting in order things that ought to have been set in order, and preparing the King's highway.
