Luke 20:40

And after that they durst not ask him any question at all.

After He answered the challenge about paying tribute to Caesar, His questioners were silenced, left baffled with nothing further to say and daring not to ask any more questions. That silence came after successive attempts to trap Him with questions, when the Pharisees, Herodians, and Sadducees tried in turn and He answered each one plainly and intelligently. His answers brought precious light to the listening people and sowed seeds of truth among them.

The verse stands within warnings about the result of rejecting the Son of God. Those warnings apply in every age, for the figures and events described have counterparts in the experience of sinners, so that unless they repent the foreshadowed doom will be theirs.
