Jesus Mocked and Reviled by the Crowdby CBPepper

Luke 22:65

And many other things blasphemously spake they against him.

During His trial the men holding Jesus mocked and struck Him, blindfolded Him, challenged Him to prophesy and identify who had hit Him, and went on speaking many other abusive and blasphemous things against Him while abusing Him. He endured their cruelty without retaliation. That treatment fulfilled prophecy inspired by Christ Himself, which had declared beforehand what men would do to Him. The taunts and abuse were part of what He bore in His mission as the Sin-bearer.

Despite such cruelty, He came not to judge or crush the world, but to save, heal, uplift, and bless it. His captors, though claiming to be righteous and appearing religiously righteous, acted from Satan's spirit and influence through envy, jealousy, and religious bigotry. Their hostility was directed not only against Christ but reveals how such men act against those who confess Him. Their hostility illustrates the enmity between the serpent and the woman's seed foretold in Genesis: those who oppose God's law unite against good, while Christ and those who confess Him wage conflict against the powers of darkness until His second coming.
