A Man Points at the Speck in His Brother's Eyeby CBPepper

Luke 6:41

And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

The question lays bare hypocrisy, watching closely for a tiny defect in a brother while failing to perceive a far greater defect in oneself. It condemns a mischievous disposition and an unsanctified tongue given to criticism and talebearing. Such indulgence is living in darkness under Satan's power, and its influence spreads that darkness to others. The faultfinder is spiritually blind and unfit to lead or help others. He must first cast the beam from his own eye, and only then will he see clearly to take the mote from his brother's eye.

Critical, corrupt speech proves a corrupt heart. A good tree does not bring forth corrupt fruit, nor does a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit, but every tree is known by its own fruit. A good person brings forth good from the good treasure of the heart, while an evil person brings forth evil, because the mouth speaks from the abundance of the heart. This rebuke comes from One who cannot err. It applies to every follower and must be heeded rather than resented.
