Luke 6:42
Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother’s eye.
The beam in one's own eye is a cherished mischievous disposition and an unsanctified tongue given to criticism and faultfinding and talebearing. To cherish such a spirit while offering to remove the mote from a brother's eye is to be the hypocrite named in the verse. That hypocrite lives in darkness under Satan's power, and his influence darkens others.
Such a blind person cannot lead his brother and cannot help him, for both will fall together. His corrupt speech proves he is a corrupt tree, revealing an evil treasure stored in the heart. The command is to first cast the beam out of one's own eye by correcting oneself, and then vision will be clear to help a brother and to bring forth good from a good heart. This direction comes from One who cannot err, it applies to every follower, and it should be received without taking offense.
