John the Baptist Speaks to His Disciples in Prisonby CBPepper

Luke 7:18

And the disciples of John shewed him of all these things.

John was imprisoned and could not see Jesus' work for himself or hear him in person.
His disciples told him of the wonderful and mighty works they had seen and heard in Jesus' ministry.
Their account informed him and comforted him in prison.
Yet he still held that if Jesus was the Messiah, Jesus would publicly proclaim himself as the Saviour of the world.

While discouraged in prison John sent his disciples to ask Jesus whether he was the promised one.
Jesus answered by healing the sick and telling them to report what they had seen and heard.
Those mighty works were clear evidence of his divinity.
Remembering such works teaches believers to trust Jesus in hardship rather than give in to unbelief.
