The Woman Touches the Hem of Jesus' Cloakby emmanuel_higgins

Luke 8:42

For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying. But as he went the people thronged him.

Jairus was a ruler of the synagogue, a haughty ruler. He had one only daughter, about twelve years old, who lay dying at the point of death. The most learned physicians had given her up to die, leaving her father in great distress.

In his distress the father fell at Jesus' feet and urgently begged Him to come and lay His hands on her so that she might be healed and live. Jesus at once agreed and went with him toward his home, which was only a short distance away. His ready compliance with the request of such a haughty ruler surprised the disciples. As He went the people thronged Him and made progress toward the home very slow.

The people pressed forward on every side eager to see the great Teacher and begging His attention and aid, so that He was at times nearly carried off His feet by the surging masses. The anxious father urged his way through fearful of being too late, while Jesus, pitying the people and deploring their spiritual darkness and physical maladies, stopped now and then to minister to their wants and to help and comfort them. The account shows Jesus entering human suffering and responding to those in need.

Christ raised the dying girl to life, and her raising stands with the raising of the widow's son at Nain and of Lazarus after four days dead as proof of His power to raise the dead to life. Her raising points forward to His second coming, when His voice will pierce the tombs and the dead in Christ will rise to glorious, immortal life to ever be with the Lord.
