Malachi 4:4
Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.
The call is addressed to Israel, to God's own people, to remember the law of Moses, the law God commanded to Moses in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. The instruction in Malachi 3 and 4 belongs together as one, and is to be carefully studied together with Isaiah 58. Standing with Malachi 3, it is a close and searching call to faithfulness in tithe and offerings, putting in remembrance those who claim they cannot see the tithe question and reminding them that the duty of tithing reaches back to Abraham.
The law to be remembered is God's rule of life and action, and its call to remember accords with the duty to love God and keep His commandments. When people reject the law or make it void, they reject the standard that marks the conflict and distinction between those who serve God and those who do not. The law is a guide for Christlike dealings, requiring God's people to act with kindness toward one another and to show a high sense of responsibility in their work.
As the close of earth's history nears, while Christ purifies His church like a refiner's fire separating the precious from the vile, God's set-apart people must remember the law and live it in perfection as they represent the character of their Heavenly Father. This prepares them for the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord, when the Sun of Righteousness will arise with healing for those who fear His name and the wicked will become ashes. Elijah is sent to turn the hearts of fathers and children, lest the earth be smitten with a curse.
The verse gives light for those who rejoice in the hope of the soon-coming morning, meaning the Lord sends reviving, healing beams of His sunshine. The fashion of this world passes away but the fashion of the world to come endures forever, infinite bliss and boundless joy reward the righteous, and Christ has gone to prepare mansions for the faithful. Those who love God and keep His commandments have a clear title never to be questioned to the immortal inheritance, those who by faith take God at His Word have an everlasting life-insurance policy, and those who now by faith enter the kingdom of God and hold fast their profession of faith will possess the kingdom forever and ever.
