Jesus Heals Peter's Wife's Motherby CBPepper

Mark 1:30

But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her.

Jesus had just left the synagogue while the people were still spell-bound with wonder and had gone to Peter's house for a little rest, yet there was no rest for Him there. The sick woman was Simon Peter's wife's mother, lying ill with a fever, and Jesus was told of her illness and need. This happened at Peter's house and home, where she lay sick.

The fever is described as a great fever. Moved by sympathy and compassion, Jesus acted at once and immediately to relieve her suffering. He rebuked the fever and disease, touching her hand and speaking words to comfort the sick.

The fever left her at once and immediately, and she was cured and recovered. She rose, filled with joy and gratitude, and ministered with willing hands to the needs of the Master and His disciples, serving them food in response to her healing. This healing was part of Christ's Sabbath work of comforting and healing the sick, which was extensive and widespread beyond computation; He never grew weary in doing it, and His field of medical practice was the world.

Her healing gives invalid people hope that Jesus can cure their maladies. His tireless Sabbath life of healing is the pattern life and example to follow.
