Disciples Find Jesus Praying on the Mountainsideby Lynnie

Mark 1:36

And Simon and they that were with him followed after him.

The setting is after a full day spent in preaching and healing, followed by a night and the hours before daybreak spent alone in prayer. Early in the morning, after He had left the place where He had been ministering, Simon Peter and those with him sought Him out. They traced Him by the sound of His earnest prayer until they found His place of retreat. When they found Him they told Him that the people, the people of Capernaum, were anxiously seeking and looking for Him.

In answer to that report He did not remain with those He had already reached but left that place and went on to other towns and cities to preach. There He would publish the message and share the truth with people who had not heard it, letting the message already given do its work and leaving those first hearers to build on what they had received. His decision showed His mission was to draw people to Him as their Saviour, not merely to attract them as a wonder-worker and healer or to establish an earthly kingdom. The verse belongs to the instruction in Mark 1:34-45 that shows the Lord working to save, and it is to be read and received as part of His call to come and partake of a rich banquet.

His moving on to new places is the example for His followers, who are to do the same. They are to move from place to place to carry the message to others rather than hang over those already reached.
