Peter Speaking with Jesus Beside Fishing Netsby CBPepper

Mark 10:28

Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee.

Peter declares in this verse that he and the other disciples have left everything and have followed Jesus.
The occasion exposed a grasping, mercenary spirit in the disciples, showing that even after leaving all they were still not free from thinking that God's favor and the reward of the righteous must be earned by their own works.
That exposure prepared the way for Jesus to teach right principles through the parable of the laborers.

Following Christ requires the surrender of every claim to self and possessions, because believers belong to God.
Those who give up family, home, or property for His sake and the gospel's receive rich blessings, abundant relationships and provision, even in this life, together with persecutions, and eternal life in the world to come, so sacrifice for Christ brings blessing and not merely loss.
Following Christ may bring trials, so earthly interests must give way to eternal ones.
