Mark 10:33
Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles: Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles:
Behold, the journey was toward Jerusalem, where the Son of man would be delivered to the chief priests and to the scribes, condemned to death by them, and then handed over to the Gentiles. The telling was plain and direct to the Twelve, laying out beforehand the betrayal and suffering that awaited Him. It was spoken as they drew near the place of sacrifice, a clear announcement of His coming death.
They did not grasp what was told them, for it ran counter to their cherished hope that He would reign in Jerusalem as a temporal prince. Even while He spoke of condemnation and delivery to death, they kept expecting the kingdom to be set up shortly.
