Mark 13:7
And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet. And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet.
Jesus spoke on the Mount of Olives in answer to Peter and James and John and Andrew, who asked when the temple buildings would be thrown down and what would be the sign of fulfillment, of His coming, and of the end of the world. His answer did not speak of Jerusalem alone or of the end alone, for He mingled the destruction of Jerusalem with the great day of His coming, in mercy veiling the full sight of the future which the disciples could not have endured and leaving them to study out the meaning. What was said of Jerusalem reaches beyond that event to the final conflagration when the Lord rises to punish the world for its iniquity, and the whole discourse was given not for the disciples only but for those who live in the last scenes of earth's history. When wars and reports or rumors of wars are heard, believers are not to be troubled, for such things must happen, but the end has not yet arrived.
The warning stands with warnings against deception by many coming in Christ's name, and with nation rising against nation and kingdom against kingdom, earthquakes in different places, famines and troubles as the beginnings of sorrows, leading toward affliction, darkening of sun and moon, falling stars, shaking of heavenly powers, and the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory to gather His elect, with the command to watch and pray because the day and hour are unknown. The surrounding disasters of famines, pestilences, earthquakes, and storms are signs that the end is near but are only the beginning of what is to come. Wars and rumors of wars belong to the first stage of an ordered shaking in which war, sword, famine, and pestilence shake the powers of earth, meaning those who bear rule on the earth, including the shaking of the angry nations in Europe. This earthly shaking comes first and is not the shaking of the powers of heaven; only afterward will the voice of God shake the powers of heaven, the sun, moon, and stars, moving them from their places without their passing away, and shake this earth or planet also. The saying was foretold as one of the signs of the times to instruct those who would afterward believe and help them prepare for the great conflict, so that discerning this sign in this time and age of the world reveals present dangers and calls for reaching a higher standard.
